ADHD Parent /Carer Survey
Come and help us gather some important information to help advocate to reduce the stigma associated with ADHD.
With over 1.2 million persons within Australia estimated to live with ADHD, the time is right to improve the outcomes of persons with ADHD. One of the first steps is proving ADHD is real and requires Australia wide evidence-based statistical information.
ADHD Australia is pleased to support the efforts of the ‘Parents for ADHD Advocacy Australia’ (PAAA) group in conducting a Parent/Carer Survey to understand more about the experiences that students with ADHD have with their schools. At the Community Information Day held in Sydney on Sunday 29th July 2018 the PAAA presented the goals of this survey. One important aim is to provide important statistical information which can be used to advocate more effectively to policy makers in the health and education space which includes reducing the stigma associated with ADHD.
PAAA is a group who have a mission “to improve the outcomes for children with ADHD, and their families, through awareness-raising, education & advocacy.”
The members of the group endeavour to:
* Provide ideas & perspectives around ADHD advocacy in key areas
* Stay informed on progress in ADHD-related policy and intervention
* Lead & implement advocacy projects
This survey will help fill the gaps in the education system’s data and guide large-scale advocacy efforts of ADHD within Australia by ADHD Australia.
The survey is designed to capture the direct experiences of support for parents and care givers of students with ADHD and will identify gaps in awareness and access to support, general ADHD awareness / training amongst educators and school managers.
Providing a benchmark in statistics is important for ADHD Australia and PAAA as such information will enable the measurement of things such as:
* ADHD INTERVENTIONS
* SCHOOL SUPPORT AND FUNDING
* SCHOOL EXCLUSIONS
* PARENT/SCHOOL INTERFACE
* PRACTITIONER/SCHOOL INTERFACE
* SCHOOL SUPPORT
* PARENT SUPPORT
* SCHOOL EXPERTISE
* BULLYING AND DISCIPLINE POLICIES
* SOCIAL SKILLS AND INTEGRATION
* MEDICATION AND DIAGNOSIS
* SUSPENSIONS AND INFORMAL EXCLUSIONS
* BALANCE OF POWER, LEGAL PROTECTIONS, COMPLAINTS PROCESSES
The aim is to have 1000 respondents across Australia with a full range of experiences to complete the survey by the end of September 2018.
