Deakin University and the Centre for Social & Early Emotional Development (SEED) is undertaking research into Understanding the impact of COVID-19 on the wellbeing of families affected by ADHD.

Associate Professor Emma Sciberas, Higher Degree Coordinator, School of Psychology, and Co-leader Intervention Sciences, Centre for Social & Early Emotional Development, Deakin University in Melbourne, is undertaking an online based research project which will look at “Understanding the impact of COVID-19 on the wellbeing of families affected by ADHD.

The online study will investigate the impacts of COVID-19 in Australia on children with ADHD and their families.  They hope that they can use the information from this project to understand how we can help families of children with ADHD during and following the COVID-19 pandemic. The study has a particular focus on child and family wellbeing and also disruptions to schooling and healthcare. This project has ethical approval from Deakin University (HEAG-H 60_2020).

This research is in collaboration with researchers from a number of other Australian organisations including Monash University, The Royal Children’s Hospital, University of Melbourne, University of Queensland, the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and the University of New South Wales. Some of the researchers are also from international organisations including Cincinnati Children’s Hospital (US), National Institutes of Health (US), SUNY Upstate Medical University (US) and the University of Heidelberg (Germany).

Participation in this research project will be completed online. Participants will be asked to complete on online survey every 2 weeks for about 6 months. The first survey will take about 25 minutes to complete and the fortnightly surveys which follow will take about 15 minutes.

Participant recruitment commenced in early May 2020.
